Service
“We wish to be compassionate and considerate in our interactions with each other, including those from different cultural backgrounds, valuing diversity and understanding the importance of developing an environmental mindset.” Ivanhoe Grammar School Strategic and Action Plan 2011-2015
A key method used by Round Square to prepare students for life is through the expectation of serving others. Each student is encouraged to perform a substantial number of service hours, in local, regional or international service or environmental projects. It is expected that students will benefit from being involved in actions that help others by gaining a better understanding of the people, groups and issues they work with.
Examples of service activities that can be undertaken:
Cambodian Service Project Our Cambodia Service Project creates unique opportunities for our school community to engage with the Round Square pillars of Environmentalism and Service. Through this project, students and teachers as well as alumni work with the Tabitha organisation to build houses in impoverished Cambodian rural communities. Service project teams also help to renovate classrooms, provide sports equipment and help with English language skills in other parts of the country, working with World Vision, PLAN Environmental and Happy Football Cambodia.
Round Square Charities Committee The Charities Committee commits to fund raising for various causes each year as well as increasing awareness of a range of social and environmental issues facing us locally, regionally and environmentally. Membership of this group provides an opportunity for students to provide service to others either in Australia or overseas.
Many opportunities also exist for students to undertake service activities locally, including:
