The Ivanhoe Grammar School libraries offer enriched learning environments where students are able to access a wide range of information sources, both print and online. Students are taught to become independent researchers, who know how to analyse their information needs, identify the best resources, take notes and synthesize this information into coherent written, oral or audio visual presentations. All students are taught about the importance of following the guidelines of academic honesty.
Teacher librarians and teachers collaborate to plan units of work, ensuring that the best resources are available in the libraries and at home via the school’s Intranet. Audio visual technicians support teachers and students in their use of digital technology to enhance the research process and presentations.
Literature and reading is a focus of library displays, activities, author visits, excursions and intranet pages. Students’ reading is monitored in timetabled wide reading programs and they are encouraged to develop the lifelong skill of reading for pleasure.
